At Weatherhead butchers we are proud to say our meat is sourced from the Yorkshire region where possible. Much of it comes from local farmers and producers in Nidderdale and Wharfedale. We attend the local farmers auctions in Pateley Bridge and Skipton to pick our prized and often award winning beasts. These are killed at a local slaughterhouse, at one time we did have our own slaughterhouse in Pateley Bridge, unfortunately due to changes in legislation it made it unfeasible to retain. The carcasses are now delivered to our butcher’s shop where we prepare the meat ourselves for our customers. This way we can make sure our customers get only quality meat and we know the provenance of our meat. In addition to the meat we buy in, we also offer our customers meat that has been reared on our own farm, where we use traditional ethical animal welfare standards.
We often buy meat and produce direct from the farm, liaising with local farmers and producers. We currently stock from the following farmers:
- T Soanes & Son – Poultry Farmers
- R M Grey – Beef & Lamb (Wharfedale Farmer)
- Anna’s Happy Trotter and small local producers – Outdoor reared Pork
- Local shoots – Game
- Ian Taylor – Free-range eggs
- Soanes – Herb fed chickens
In addition to our meat products we also stock a range of accompaniments many sourced from small local producers:
- Mercers Chutneys and Pickles – from York
- Range of cheese – Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes
Our local suppliers are at the very heart of everything we do. Our whole ethos is based around reducing food miles, supporting local farmers and producers and providing the best products possible to our customers. We are proud to have developed excellent relationships with our suppliers.
